Use this guide to enhance the sex positions you love and try new ones.

Warm Up

Stretching and exercise are not just good for you, it’s good for sex too! This simple, yoga-inspired routine can significantly improve your sex position skills:

  1. Cat-Cow Stretch: On all fours, arch your back (cow pose) and then round it out (cat pose) to warm up your spine. Do this slowly, 3-5 times. 

  2. Hip Flexor Stretch: Kneel on one knee, and lean forward into the stretch to loosen your hips. Do each side 3 times, holding the position for 15-30 seconds. 

  3. Seated Forward Bend: Sit with your legs extended and reach for your toes to stretch your hamstrings. Do this 3 times, holding the stretch for 15-30 seconds. Try to increase your stretch with each set. 

  4. Happy Baby Pose: Lie on your back, grab your feet, and pull your knees towards your chest to open up your hips. You can slowly rock side-to-side. Do this 3 times and hold for 15-30 seconds. 

  5. Bridge Pose: Lie on your back with knees bent, lift your hips to strengthen your glutes and lower back. Do this 3-5 times, holding the pose for 15-30 seconds. 

Exercises

  1. Pushups and planks for missionary position.

  2. Hip thrusters and squats for cowgirl/reverse cowgirl. 

  3. Sumo squats for standing sex. 

  4. V-Ups to increase ab strength.

  5. Hip thrusters and clamshells for doggy style. 

New Takes on Traditional Goodies

Missionary

  • Use pillows under the receiving partner’s hips to change the angle.

  • The Twist Position: While lying on your back, cross one of your legs over your body. Then, have your partner straddle your extended leg and lower themselves while holding your crossed-over leg at a 90-degree angle. 

Doggy Style

  • Stand Up: For shallow pleasure, do it while you’re both standing up. For deeper pleasure, have the receiving partner bed over the side of the side or couch.

Cowgirl (Girl on Top)

  • Reverse Cowgirl: Begin in the traditional cowgirl position and spin around to you’re facing the feet. Arya Tip: Try doing this while your partner is still inside of you. Lean over and grab the ankles. This is a great way to add in anal play if this is something you want to explore. 

Sex Positions for Different Sexual Issues

For Back Pain

  • Side-by-Side Scissors: Lie on your sides facing each other with your legs intertwined. This position will reduce strain on your back while allowing deep penetration and intimacy. 

For Premature Ejaculation

  • The Edge: The receiving partner lies on the edge of the bed, with their pelvis scooched toward the edge. You can either have your legs bent, knees relaxed to the side, or legs up in the air. The penetrating partner stands at the edge. This gives the penetrating partner control over the depth and pace, which can help delay the orgasm for them. 

For Female Painful Sex

  • Try Spooning, cowgirl, and missionary.

  • Avoid doggy style. 

Try Something New

Ballet Dancer
The receiving partner should stand on one leg with the other wrapped around your partner’s waist. It’s perfect for spontaneous sex and it’ll give you a unique angle. 

Kneeling Cowgirl (Girl on Top)

The penetrating partner lies on their back, with their knees bent, while the receiving partner gets on top, kneels, and then holds onto their partner’s knees while mounting the penis. 

Seated Sex

The giving partner sits on a chair or couch, and the receiving partner sits on their lap to mount them, facing away. Arya Tip: Lean forward into a stretch with both of your hands on the floor. Your buttcheeks will spread a little, giving your partner more access for anal play. 

From-Behind-Bend

Sideways 69

Both of you lie on your sides, head to foot, and then align your faces to each other’s genitals. This is much more comfortable than the traditional 69 oral sex position. 

Lotus

The penetrating partner sits down cross-legged, while the receiving partner straddles them, mounting the penis, and wraps their legs around their partner’s waist. Add in passionate kissing and touching to enhance your experience.
